The Open University and the University of London are the UK's largest distance-learning organisations - and Dotfive has worked with both of them.
In 2009 we got involved in the €60million EU4ALL programme - a Europe-wide ambition to improve eLearning services and establish new standards. There are around seventy European partners working on the project in different areas, with part of the ambition being to promote and nurture international relations between European countries. Funded by the European Commission, we worked closely with the OU on this ambitious project to deliver web management systems, data services, and consultancy.
These systems include the Interim Loan Kit Service, which is a centralised system for managing and tracking equipment made available to disabled students; and the Resource Access Information Service, which handles the transformation of data between different forms when talking to a variety of connecting services and applications.
- Develop a single, universally used system for managing and tracking equipment
- Ensure that a new Resource Access Information Service (RAIS) has the capability to communicate with various different services and applications
- Ensure both of these are stable at all times and have good data integrity
- Ensure that the development work and integration stays within financial limits set by the EU4ALL programme team
We integrated these services with Moodle and Drupal systems that the OU runs, and worked closely with other European partners to define standards and specifications and ensure smooth delivery.
- Integration with existing Moodle and Drupal content management systems
- Single system used for managing and tracking equipment
- New Resource Access Information Service (RAIS) saves time and money
